Does this sound familiar?
You completed your EMDR training and felt excited, until a complex client landed on your caseload.
Maybe they dissociate mid-session and you too find yourself frozen, unsure whether to push forward or pull back.
Maybe you have so many protocols and variants swirling in your head that you’ve started second-guessing your clinical decisions when it comes to EMDR.
Maybe you know EMDR is the right approach for this client, but you’re concerned that opening up early trauma might overwhelm the both of you.
EMDR is a powerful, nuanced modality, and working with complex presentations takes time and support.
About Your Consultant
Gabriella Evans is the founder of The Trauma Therapy Group and an EMDR Consultant-in-Training (with full EMDRIA Consultant status expected by early 2027). Her consultation work is grounded in the same values that shape her clinical practice: curiosity, collaboration, and a deep respect for the complexity of trauma.
Gabriella’s consultation specialty sits at the intersection of some of EMDR’s most challenging and most rewarding clinical territory:
- Complex trauma and dissociation, including Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and other dissociative presentations
- Attachment-focused EMDR and working with early relational trauma and trauma reenactments
- EMDR with pre-verbal trauma
- Integrating EMDR with Ego State work
- EMDR Intensives (both the clinical and logistical considerations)
If you are a trained EMDR therapist working with any of these populations, or new to the EMDR world and seeking consultation hours to complete your basic training or certification process, Gabriella would love to support you.
Experiential Consultation
When it fits, Gabriella offers experiential consultation alongside case discussions. This means that, when appropriate and with your consent, you can actually practice EMDR together, working with an EMDR technique or intervention in the moment, rather than just talking about it. Not every consultant works in this way, and this may be especially supportive for those who learn best by doing. This hands-on approach can expand your EMDR practice and offer insights that are difficult to access through discussion alone, helping translate theory into felt understanding.
What to Expect
Consultation with Gabriella is collaborative, relational, and above all, practical. She wants you to leave every session with something you can use in the room with your clients.
You might work through case conceptualizations together, talk through your clinical decision-making, revisit protocol selection, or explore what’s coming up for you as a therapist and human when you sit with your clients. She holds space for the emotional weight of this work, not just the clinical mechanics.
Who This Is For
Consultation is a good fit for EMDR-trained therapists who are:
- Working toward EMDR Basic Training consultation hours (10 hours required)
- Pursuing EMDRIA Certification (20 hours required)
- Looking to build confidence and skill with dissociative or complex trauma clients
- Wanting to deepen their understanding of Ego State work alongside EMDR
- Exploring EMDR Intensives in their own practice
- Simply wanting a supportive space to think through difficult clinical material
